Cool girls know their Alderperson

Chicago is made up of 50 legislative districts (Wards), each with its own elected Alderperson. Together, all 50 Alders form the legislative body of Chicago. Basically like the congress of the city.

What do Alderpeople do? Video

Your Alder is basically the reason things do or don't happen in your ward. Some duties include: voting on city legislation, requesting infrastructure/street improvements, providing city services to residents and businesses.

Who Elects Them?

You do! Aldermanic elections happen with Chicago's municipal elections (like the Mayoral election) every 4 years. Our next municipal election is in 2027.

Who is my Alderperson?

Idk, but you can find out by clicking this link

Why is this important?

Your Alder has more impact on your day to day life than any other elected official.

If you want to get connected in your neighborhood or raise awareness for an issue, contact your Alderperson's office.
